Your face is selling a scam: how to get the ad taken down
Fake investments, fake cures, fake products: scammers use your image, sometimes animated with AI, to sell. Your family, patients or clients may fall for it.
Warn your audience
Post a clear message on your official channels: you do not run ads like this, and nobody should click or pay. It is the single most effective way to limit the number of victims while the ads are being removed.
Keep evidence
- Copy the exact address (URL) of every page, post or account involved.
- Take a screenshot showing the content, the address and, if possible, the date. Do not download or share the content itself.
- Note who posted it: account name, handle, date posted, any useful comments.
- Keep any messages if someone contacted you (threats, demands for money). Do not delete them.
For an ad, also note the advertiser name shown and the address of the site it links to.
Steps to get it taken down
- Report the ad directly from the ad (the “…” menu, then Report), as a scam or impersonation.
- Search the platform's ad library (Meta runs a public Ad Library) to find every ad from the same advertiser, and report each one.
- Report the destination site to its host, and report the fraud to the authorities: in the US, the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov; elsewhere, your national fraud reporting service or the police.
- Start again: these campaigns are often relaunched under a new name.
Why these ads keep coming back
Scammers create new ad accounts as soon as a campaign is blocked. One-off removal is not enough: it takes monitoring and reporting as they appear. That is what our subscription does.
What the law says
These ads are fraud almost everywhere, and using someone's likeness to sell without consent also breaks right of publicity or image rights laws in many countries and US states. Platforms' advertising policies ban them outright.
Reporting to the police is your right, and it is the only way to have the person behind it identified and prosecuted. It is not required to get content taken down. A lawyer in your country can tell you whether it makes sense in your case, and our evidence file can be attached to your report.
General information, not legal advice. Laws differ from country to country: for advice on your situation, talk to a lawyer where you live.
